In this universe, every living being has the sole desire to attain everlasting happiness. Have you ever questioned why, inspite of the intense desire and continuous effort for everlasting joy, we experience only unhappiness? Though the answer lies within ourselves, we are ignorant of it. Our spiritual Lords, the Jinas (the Victorious Ones), having understood the fundamental cause of this unhappiness and having discovered the appropriate cure, out of their selfless compassion, guide others on to the blissful path of self-experience. Foremost amongst these compassionate beings are the Tirthankars. As supreme vehicles of altruistic feelings, the Tirthankars have in every era, given to the world the key to obtaining the state of eternal bliss.

Lord Mahavir (599 B.C. - 527 B.C.), the most recent Jina is the last of the current series of 24 Tirthankars. Since the last 2,500 years, there have been many enlightened souls who have expounded religion.
